5 Wines to Try This Summer
Somehow, it doesn’t quite feel like summer until you’ve opened a bottle of wine and poured yourself a glass out in the sun. Summertime spent in the company of friends out in the sunshine with more than a small array of wines sounds like just what the doctor ordered after a long week at work.
Savouring a glass of merlot or investing yourself in a rich sauvignon blanc as you bask in the (admittedly inconsistent!) seasonal rays is hard to beat, whether or not you are a keen drinker. With that in mind, particularly if you’re unsure of what to opt for, here are 5 wines guaranteed to appeal:
1. Santa Margherita “52” Rose
Plenty of people find a happy medium with Rose if they aren’t too keen on either red or white and this excellent “52” is bound to suit those same drinkers.
Santa Margherita are revered for providing high-quality, limited edition wines and following on from their Prosecco, they have decided to bring out this Rose in production of just 200 bottles. Prosecco purists may baulk at a sip of it however as it’s a fascinating blend of Glera grape and Malbec that is left to ferment for 5 months. Worth the wait.
2. Claime D'Or Cabernet Sauvignon Rose
Another Rose, you say? More and more people are turning to Rose to find a balance in taste and as they can often be very kind to a sweet tooth, it makes a lot of sense for people to flock to a bottle.
This fine bottle from Claime D’Or is an impressive mixture of berry flavours that stay long on the palate after the initial taste. However, despite the initially sweet textures, it evolves into something quite dry and will be an intriguing experience for many palates. Find out all about it and how it won Silver International Competition of Terroir Wines as soon as you can.
3. Valpolicella Superiore 'Ripassa' Zenato
Now this is a taste that any wine enthusiast has to try at least once. The awards it has reaped over the years almost speak for themselves.
A bold Italian red wine, this is quite simply superb from the masters over at Zenato. Tastes that effervesce and mature with every sip mean that the Best Blend trophy granted by Decanter is richly deserved for this premier bottle. If you’ve ever thought you know what an Amarone tastes like thanks to supermarket fare, it’s time to think again. Match with some delectable meat and you are well on course to finding your new favourite wine.
4. Squawking Magpie Reserve Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2013
By being among the elite producers of New Zealand red wine, Squawking Magpie’s new bottles are sought after so fervently that if you were to offer a wine enthusiast their Reserve Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2013, they may just bite your hand off!
Many wine merchants have been clamouring to procure bottles of this limited range and with them being bought up so quickly, you may have to act fast if you want to sample this light, crisp and aromatic wine from the New Zealand gurus.
5. Farigoulette Rose Domaine D'Anglas
Now bear with us on this one, you may just want to leave any reservations you may have about natural wine at the door.
There’s no better time to try a natural wine than in glorious sunshine and if you’ve tried a natural variety in its less than glorious first days of production years prior, they may be deserving of a second chance.
This excellent bottle from D’Anglas is a gentle introduction to the world of natural wines thanks to a sweet and unreserved taste. Available at an affordable price as well, there could be no harm in at least trying this charming varietal.
And one to avoid…
Tesco Everyday Value Spanish Wine
You can do so much better!
Don’t just go for the cheap and eventually not too cheerful – wine is made to be savoured and experienced rather than just forced down. Also, this supposedly fruity wine comes in a carton. Need we say more?
You can pick up all of these fine varieties from the experts at Good Wine Online, highly-respected wine merchants in Conwy, North Wales. Be sure to visit their website, email sales@goodwineonline.co.uk or phone 0845 6432551 for more information.
