Some Health Benefits of Drinking Red Wine
The health benefits of drinking red wine have been used for around 8000 years, with it believed to have been first produced in Europe and Asian areas. The consumption of red wine – in moderation, has now been proven to have its health benefits to those who consume it.
It helps with sleep; while people are often warned how alcohol may interfere with sleep, red wine is said to contain a key ingredient called melatonin, which can help with sleep. This anti-oxidant helps to regulate you body clock, keeping your sleeping pattern normal, and can help you get a better nights sleep. Melatonin can also help prevent cancer.
Red wine in moderation is considered to be beneficial to the heart, as it contains antioxidants called flavanoids, which can raise HDL levels, which is the good form of cholesterol. It can also lower LDL levels, which is often described as ‘bad’ cholesterol. Red wine can also act as a blood thinner, which can help prevent blood clots.
Red wine has been thought to help reduce the risk of disease, due to the antioxidants that are present, that help not only the heart, but the rest of the body too. These anTIoxidants help repair cells that have been damaged by free radicals and can reduce the risk of diseases such as diabetes, macular degeneration and certain types of cancer.
Resveratol is an antioxidant that has been recently getting the most attention and coverage. It is found in the skin and seeds of grapes and can also help to prevent some types of cancer. Another benefit that is considered to come along with the consumption of this is its ability to reverse aging and help give skin increased longevity. It is also thought to help prevent age related disorder, for example; Alzheimer’s and dementia. Men can benefit from drinking red wine as it may help to prevent such problems as prostate cancer, with some scientists believing that men, who drink a glass each day, are thought to cut the chances of getting it in half.
The consumption of red wine can protect you from getting the flu – research has shown that those who drink red wine a few times a week can reduce their chances of getting influenza by at least 20%. Red wine is also a natural tranquilizer that can help reduce stress, anxiety and help calm you. It contains some minerals and vitamins like; potassium, fluoride, phosphorous, choline; each of which have their own benefits of being consumed.
Other benefits - a few more benefits include providing energy, aids in digestion, stimulate the appetite and can help to restore nutritional balance. It must be noted, that drinking excess amounts of red wine – or any alcohol for that matter can have negative effects on the human body. Some people should avoid alcohol all together, especially depending on current circumstances (pregnant women, migraine headache sufferers etc.). Please remember to drink in moderation and stick to the recommended allowances.
